Uploading a brief clip to the Skyrim subreddit recently, user ArmandTheDon has captured the moment when a simple conversation with a trader in Riften becomes interrupted by a passing guard. Only the guard isn’t walking back and forth at a steady pace, nor are they disrupting the transaction in any physical way. Instead, they can be seen in the background, gliding along as though the floor is a smooth sheet of ice, or traders in the world of Tamriel have started selling rollerblades. In any case, it’s an amusing moment.

Skyrim’s guards are quite serious NPCs, known for being the keepers of peace, as well as the aforementioned arrow meme, but to see one gliding back and forth like they’re Michelle Kwan is just one of almost endless ways that Bethesda’s decade-old entry in the Elder Scrolls series becomes unintentionally funny. To punctuate what’s going on, the player then moves away from the trade stall to get a better look at what’s happening. At this moment, the guard can be seen gliding over to a bench and sitting down on it in a smooth, almost unnatural, way before getting back up and sliding off once more.
Skyrim absolutely has some crazy bugs and glitches, the majority of which seem more entertaining than harmful. It’s possible that the studio has simply neglected to patch many of these out over the years. It could also be that these have been left in on purpose as a way to make players laugh. Most likely not, however.
With it also being a game that improves mindfulness in players, some of the more perilous aspects of Skyrim become detracted slightly, especially when these bugs are spotted. It is a bit bad on the developer’s part that these issues still persist after more than ten years, but seeing one out in the wild, or on Reddit posts, has pretty much become its own thing, with some fans probably intentionally seeking glitches to show to others.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
