Many expected American Pharoah to run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, the first time he’d run against older horses. But based on what Zayat said Saturday at Saratoga, that may never happen.

If he does retire, Pharoah will walk away with eight wins and one place in 10 career races. He won eight different stakes races on eight different tracks.

And of course, American Pharoah captured the first Triple Crown since 1978.
